Dayana Cosme is a Community Engagement Manager for the Truman Center for National Policy and Truman National Security Project. Dayana will help Truman and members bridge the gap of communication to generate effective national security solutions. She supports the Truman goal of uniting, uplifting and leading members to inspire progression and development in our national security.
Previous to her joining the Truman team, Dayana was an intern for the US Agency of International Development working on a sub-project highlighting the Global Fragility Act. Her passion for social justice led her to researching the ‘3Ds’ of national security and having to analyze the US governmental functioning of foreign diplomacy. Through her research, she found that building interpersonal relationships and understanding other communities' needs instead of assuming the standard of fragility led to more equitable growth of a fragile country. Dayana believes that social justice is: The destruction of oppressive institutions and the executive act of bringing marginalized groups UP to a cohesive and fairly set standard for all.
Dayana was born and raised in the Northern Virginia area before moving to Richmond for her education. She recently graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelors in Psychology and a concentration in Criminal Justice and Social analysis.. Outside of her social justice efforts, Dayana loves to sing, is trained in Hip-Hop and Contemporary dance, and is the biggest Law & Order SVU fan around.
