Christine Vargas is a communications and marketing leader with more than two decades of experience across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. She has directed communications strategies for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy (OASD-IBP), and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Critical Technologies (OASD-CT), advising the ASD-CT and ten Principal Directors on stakeholder engagement, and organizational alignment.
Prior to government, Ms. Vargas led internal communications strategies for the Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Global Services at AWS, supporting global business operations. Before Amazon, Ms. Vargas built the communications and digital team at Population Services International (PSI), a global health nonprofit, where she designed their internal communications function, while managing rebranding and crisis communications initiatives. Previously, Ms. Vargas held various senior marketing positions at Control Risks and Avascent (now Oliver Wyman), where she developed their inaugural marketing function.
Ms. Vargas has demonstrated sustained commitment to national security through volunteer service. She has worked on the ground in Afghanistan with Women for Afghan Women to document women’s rights initiatives supported by the U.S. Department of State, and served as an elections monitor in Egypt with Democracy International. The Truman National Security Project recognized her as their Rookie of the Year in 2015 and she continues to be an active leader within the organization, currently serving on the Board as a Member-Director (2024–2026).
Ms. Vargas holds a M.A. in International Relations and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. from Wesleyan University. She is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and is a candidate for their Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certificate. In her spare time she enjoys camping and horsepacking, and can often be found in Narragansett, RI with her family.
