Tressa Guenov
Tressa Steffen Guenov is the Legislative Assistant for National Security Affairs to Senator Claire McCaskill. Tressa supports the Senator’s work on the Senate Armed Services Committee and advises her on defense, foreign policy, intelligence and veterans issues. Previously, Tressa was the Country Director for Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where she was part of an interagency team that set up the northern supply line into Afghanistan through Central Asia. She also served as Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy (USDP) and the Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Her many duties included coordinating support for USDP’s National Security Council meetings. Tressa entered into public service as a Presidential Management Fellow in the State Department in 2004, where she worked a range of polical-military issues. She also served at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in several roles, including positions with the Commission on Science and Security and the U.S.-EU-Poland, Romania and Slovakia Action Commissions. Tressa holds masters degrees from Oxford University and Washington University in St. Louis. She has a BA in Psychology, summa cum laude, from the University of Oregon. Tressa is a 2010 Truman National Security Fellow, is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and co-chairs the CFR Term Member Advisory Committee for DC. She lives in Washington with her husband and two young sons.
