Stephen Krupin

Stephen is the Director of Speechwriting on President Obama’s re-election campaign.  He previously was the speechwriter to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, writing hundreds of speeches that Leader Reid delivered on the Senate floor and to constituents in Nevada, before government and business leaders on official delegations abroad, and along the campaign trail of the highest-profile race of 2010.  Stephen previously served as Leader Reid’s press secretary and deputy press secretary, and as Florida press secretary on President Obama’s 2008 campaign.

Before coming to Capitol Hill, Stephen worked at APCO Worldwide, where he was a writer, spokesman and strategist on public affairs campaigns for Fortune 500 companies.  A recovering journalist, Stephen covered all three branches of government for the Washington Bureau of Cox Newspapers, was a reporter and copy editor at the Daily Herald in Chicago, and wrote for CNN in Washington.

Stephen graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and earned a master’s degree from the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. He is an avid photographer and skier, and cheers proudly for his native Washington sports teams, but without much success: in 2009, Sports Illustrated named Stephen the “Unluckiest Fan in America.”
