Robert A. Friedman

Robert Friedman is an attorney in the Washington D.C. office of Venable LLP.  Robert is a non-resident Fellow at the Georgetown Center on National Security and the Law and a Fellow in the Truman National Security Project.  

In 2007, Robert helped launch Foreign Policy Digest, a monthly, online foreign affairs journal which spreads awareness of international issues and increases access to world affairs.  He currently serves as the journal’s Managing Editor.  

Previously, Robert was a Law Clerk on the Senate Judiciary Committee staff of Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) where he worked on national security issues and executive and judicial nominations.  Prior to that, he served as an Aide to Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) where he handled speechwriting, policy analysis and constituent outreach in the areas of immigration, education, and housing.  Robert also spent time working for the Vice Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and served as a member of the Obama-Biden Campaign’s Defense Policy Committee.   

Robert serves on the National Rules Committee and the Washington D.C. Advisory Board of the New Leaders Council – an organization committed to promoting political entrepreneurship in young people.  Robert is also the Chair of the Anti-Defamation League’s Washington D.C. Young Professionals Division Board.  

Robert graduated cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center where he was the Senior Notes Editor for the Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law.  He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Emory University, and a Master’s in Government, with honors, from Johns Hopkins University.
