Patrick Keefe is an independent journalist and author currently serving as a Special Advisor on Rule of Law and International Humanitarian Policy issues in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. He is on leave from the Century Foundation, a progressive policy think tank, where he is a Senior Fellow focused on international security issues. Patrick is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and Slate, and the author of THE SNAKEHEAD (Doubleday, 2009), about human smuggling and transnational crime, and CHATTER (Random House, 2005), about communications intelligence. A former Marshall Scholar and Guggenheim Fellow, Patrick holds a BA from Columbia, a Masters in International Relations from Cambridge, a Masters in New Media and Information Systems from the London School of Economics, and a JD from Yale. He lives with his wife and son in Washington, DC.
