Michael McNerney
Mike McNerney currently serves in the Cyber Policy Office at the Defense Department where he focuses on legislation, private sector engagement, and domestic cybersecurity. Prior to joining this office, he worked as an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel. In this position, he advised the Chief Information Officer on issues relating to cybersecurity and telecommunications law.
Before joining Defense, Mike worked at the State Department in the offices of the Middle East Partnership Initiative and the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. His portfolios there included democratic reform, rule of law, and detainee affairs.
Mike has also worked for Senator Feinstein on the Senate Judiciary Committee, at the law firm of Bracewell & Guiliani LLP, for the National Institute for Military Justice, and on numerous political campaigns. Mike is also veteran officer of the US Air Force.
A California native, Mike received his BA in Economics and Political Science from UC Davis in 2001 and his law degree from American University in 2009. He is a Truman Security Fellow, a member of the Technology Advisory Council, a Special Advisor to Veterans Green Jobs, and a former member of the Electoral College.
