Michael Lieberman
Michael Lieberman is an associate in the International Department of Steptoe & Johnson LLP. His practice focuses on international regulatory and compliance issues, including corruption, export controls, sanctions and international trade. Most recently prior, Michael served as a law consultant for The Asia Foundation in San Francisco, an organization dedicated to governance and economic reform in the Asia-Pacific region. There he developed proposals relating to prison reform, post-conflict rule of law, human rights and judicial reform among other issues. Previous experience includes clerkships in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, service as press secretary to Texas State Rep. Juan J.Hinojosa and internships with the Office of Management and Budget’s National Security Division and Rep. Tom Lantos. His articles have appeared in numerous publications, including the Jerusalem Post, Huffington Post, Israel Law Review, Military Law Review, International Affairs Review and the edited volume Terrorism and International Law. He has presented papers and research on various governance and international law issues at places such as the Asian Development Bank, the Indian Society of International Law, Hebrew University and the University of Reading (UK). Michael has also volunteered as a medical assistant at eye camps in Tibet. He enjoys many things, high on the list being traveling, climbing, hiking and dogs.
