Michael Chase
Michael Chase is an Assistant Professor in the Strategy and Policy Department at the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. His current research focuses on China-Taiwan security issues, including Taiwan’s defense policy, Chinese military modernization, and Chinese nuclear and conventional missile forces. He is the author of “Taiwan’s Security Policy: External Threats and Domestic Politics” (Lynne Rienner, 2008). Prior to joining the faculty at the Naval War College, he was a researcher with the Center for Intelligence Research and Analysis (CIRA). Before joining CIRA, he was a policy analyst with the RAND Corporation. Michael received his Ph.D. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC. He also holds an M.A. in China studies from SAIS and a B.A. in politics from Brandeis University. He is proficient in Chinese, and has studied in China and conducted field research in China and Taiwan.
