Jim Morin
James Morin is an attorney with Cooley LLP, advising on venture and project financing, with a particular focus on innovative, high-growth companies in the aerospace, clean energy and defense sectors as well as cross-border transactions. Previously at Hogan Lovells, he handled a wide range of transactional matters that relate to international business, export finance, emerging markets and development, as well as post conflict reconstruction and national security. He worked directly with retired Senator John Warner in promoting public awareness of the connections between energy, climate change and national security. Prior to graduating Georgetown University Law Center, Jim served for 6 years as an officer in the U.S. Army, including tours in Afghanistan and Iraq as an Infantry Platoon Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division, as a Company Commander in the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard (the Escort to the President) and two additional years in the Virginia National Guard, with a mission focus on homeland security in the National Capitol Region. He was twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Exceptional Service in Combat. He is a 2001 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he majored in military history, focusing on counter-insurgency and low-intensity conflict. During the Obama campaign, Jim served as a Director of Virginia Veterans for Obama and is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Jim lives in Herndon, Virginia with his wife and five children.
