Jamaal Young

Kansas-native and New York City-resident Jamaal Young is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where his                   anthropological studies focused on women’s rights and the history of the Middle East. Since then, he has worked on the 2004 presidential cycle for the Democratic National Committee as well as on multiple state-level campaigns fighting for gay and lesbian civil rights.  His is also involved in several global projects, most notably for the community-service organization City Year and the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation. He is currently part of the publications team at Security Council Report, a non-profit organization that provides in-depth analysis of the many items on the UN Security Council’s agenda. Outside of work he serves as Co-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee for the DL21C (Democratic Leadership for the 21st Century), a grassroots political organization for progressive New Yorkers. Jamaal is also a contributor to the New York Press, where his regular column covers a myriad of political and cultural issues in his own witty and unique style.
