Daniel Savage

Daniel Savage is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Public Policy at Harvard University. Dan graduated from West Point in 2005 and served for five years in the United States Army as an infantry officer. Stationed in Vilseck, Germany, Dan led a 46-man Stryker infantry platoon through eight months of training followed by a fifteen-month deployment to Iraq. In Baghdad, he led his platoon on nearly 300 combat missions as part of “the surge,” including the three-month Battle of Sadr City, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his leadership. Upon redeployment, Dan served as an operations officer at the headquarters of US Army Central Command where he participated in multinational training exercises in Egypt and Kuwait. As a Mayoral Fellow in Chicago this past summer, Dan led a successful effort to gain Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s support for the Veterans Cultural Center of Chicago. This proposed partnership between three existing organizations will provide comprehensive services and a sense of community for veterans and display veteran-created cultural experiences to offer the general public a chance to understand veterans’ stories. Dan is originally from Homewood, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
