Brian Babcock-Lumish

Major Brian Babcock-Lumish is an Assistant Professor of International Relations in the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he is also the Executive Secretary of the Scholarship Program. Formerly an enlisted Russian linguist, Brian received an officer’s commission in the U.S. Army and a Bachelor of Science in International & Strategic History and International Relations from West Point. Upon graduation, he earned an MPhil in Russian and East European Studies at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University as a U.S. Marshall Scholar. Brian has served in various military intelligence company and battalion staff positions and commanded a 650-person company training U.S. Army intelligence analysts at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. From there he twice deployed to Iraq, first leading a team training Iraqi intelligence collectors, and later serving for a year as a strategic intelligence analyst, including a four-month assignment as the daily intelligence briefer for General David Petraeus during ‘The Surge.’ Prior to returning to West Point on faculty, Brian studied for a PhD in War Studies at Kings College London as a Harry S. Truman Scholar.
