Adnan Zulfiqar
Adnan Zulfiqar is the Law & Public Policy Fellow at Annenberg's Center for Global Communication Studies. He is also completing his doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations where his research focuses on politics and governance in the Middle East, Central and South Asia, as well as Islamic law and militancy. He previously helped draft the Penal Code of the Maldives, serving as a Team Leader helping to synthesize diverse legal systems into one comprehensive code. Adnan also served as a legislative staffer and personal aide to U.S. Senator Max Cleland (D-GA) advising him on immigration, education and foreign policy matters. In addition, he has been an associate at the Legal Resources Center in Pretoria, a visiting scholar at the Center for Excellence in Public Law and Human Rights in Tehran and a Presidential Fellow at the Salzburg Global Seminar. Adnan received his B.A. in Religion and Anthropology from Emory University, M.L.S. in International Affairs from Georgetown University and J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He has spent over 11 years residing in the Middle East, South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa and is proficient in 5 languages including Arabic, Urdu and Farsi.
