Our Activities

Building a long-term progressive movement requires leaders steeped in our nation's security needs.

The Truman Project provides battle-tested training programs to educate progressive leaders across the country, from future members of Congress to state and local leaders, Congressional staff, and recent college graduates. Our leadership development programs are geared to meeting immediate needs as well as building the long-term backbench of progressive leaders.

Underlying all our trainings is an understanding that the world is more complex and inter-connected than ever before. Our programs are designed to reach a broad range of leaders frequently overlooked in the national security debate, such as local homeland security experts, humanitarian development specialists, scientists working on global health, and businesspeople working in the new energy economy.

Long-term leadership also requires gaining a deep understanding of traditional security issues from veterans, military reservists, and law enforcement on the front lines of homeland security. The Truman National Security has a proven track record of recruiting these crucial professionals and integrating them into all of our programs.
