Karlo Barrios Marcelo serves as Partnership Director, leading Truman’s effort to equip political and advocacy professionals with a strong understanding of progressive security values and how to share that vision with the American public.  In this role, he leads the recruitment and selection of Partners and oversees the production of conferences, networking events and other on-going professional development opportunities.

Prior to joining Truman, Karlo analyzed the business metrics of domestic micro-lending organizations as an associate at The Aspen Institute.  He’s also worked at CIRCLE (Center for Information &Research on Civic Learning & Engagement), where he published dozens of research papers and developed an expertise in youth voting and the Millennial generation.  During the 2008 election, he wrote about progressive politics and democracy at FutureMajority.com and WireTap Magazine.  More recently, he started his own consulting firm specializing on helping non-profits and businesses understand and engage the Millennials.  He serves as a board member of Advocate for Youth and is on the advisory boards of Headcount, myImpact.org and New Leaders Council – Chicago. Karlo graduated with a BA in economics and government from The University of Maryland and an MPP from The University of Michigan.  He was a 2002 Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Fellow.
