Mark Medish
Mark Medish advises clients on investment and financial issues worldwide as a partner at Akin Gump. From 2000 to 2001 he served in the White House as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director on the National Security Council staff for Russian, Ukrainian, and Eurasian affairs. Previously, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Treasury for International Affairs under Treasury Secretaries Robert E. Rubin and Lawrence H. Summers. He received the Treasury Department's Exceptional Service Award in 2000. Mr. Medish was a Senior Advisor to the administrator of the United Nations Development Program in New York and was counselor to Thomas A. Dine, the Assistant Administrator for Europe and the Newly Independent States at the U.S. Agency for International Development. He is a regular participant at the World Economic Forum, and his commentaries have appeared in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times, and Les Echos. Mr. Medish received his B.S.F.S. summa cum laude in economics from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, his A. M. in Soviet Studies from Harvard University, and his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School.
