Larry Diamond
Larry Diamond is a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, a professor of political science and sociology at Stanford University and coordinator of the Democracy Program of the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford's Institute for International Studies. From January through March 2004, he served as a senior advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, advising on issues related to the political transition in Iraq. Diamond is the founding co-editor of the Journal of Democracy and serves as co-director of the National Endowment for Democracy's International Forum for Democratic Studies. During 2001-2002, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and a contributing author to its report, "Foreign Aid in the National Interest." Diamond is a specialist on democratic development and on U.S. foreign policy affecting democracy abroad. He writes and consults on U.S. international efforts to promote democracy abroad, and on international development policies and programs. He is the author of four books and has published more than 30 edited books. Diamond received all of his degrees from Stanford University, including a B.A. in 1974, an M.A. in 1978, and a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1980.
