Andrew S. Weiss

Andrew S. Weiss served in the White House on the National Security Council staff as Director for Russian, Ukrainian, and Eurasian Affairs from 1998 to 2001. In this role, he was focused on day-to-day management of U.S.-Russian relations. He also served in the U.S. State Department from 1994 to 1998 as a member of the Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff where he was responsible for U.S. policy toward Russia, Ukraine, and other post-Soviet countries. From 1992-1994, he was a policy assistant as well as country director for Russia in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. A former Presidential Management Intern, Mr. Weiss was a budget analyst in the U.S. Department of the Army from 1991 to 1992. He is a graduate of Columbia University with a B.A. in Russian Regional Studies and holds a master's degree in international affairs from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs as well as a certificate from the W. Averell Harriman Institute for Advanced Study of the Soviet Union.
